The Avars (6th - 7th century)

The Avars (6th - 7th century)

The Avars, Türkic-speaking tribes, arrived in the steppe from the Central Asia in 550s. They had various names, for example the later Rus’ chronicle evoked them under name of Obry. The Avar burial places, excavated in the Northern Shore and the Danube valley, offer their jewelry decorations. More often there are silver belt applications, cast in special patterns, additionally incrustated with coulorful glass or stone, embellished with gold granulation.
