Mongol Empire - Golden Horde (13th – 14th centuries)
In the first half of 13th century the Mongol Empire of Genghis Khan stretched across Eurasia till Eastern Europe. The western part of empire split into uluses, khanates , namely the Golden Horde, it became the most powerful state in Europe and Asia for two hundred years. The Golden Horde cities were inhabited by the Mongols, Kumans, Bulgars, Ruthenians and many others. Taste of its steppe and urban wealthy is fully reflected in jewelry. More often ornamental motifs filled the surface of the goldsmith object, in medallions or on bands. The vessels bear a neat picture engraved or chased on dotted background.
