The Polovtsians (11th – 13th century)
After the defeat of the Pechenegs by the Great Prince Yaroslav the Wise, in the mid-11th century, the steppe of Eastern Europe was occupied by the Polovtsian nomads (known as Cumans or Kipchaks). The Polovtsian tumuli make small groups of low mounds under which the archaeologists normally find the horse bridle and the weaponry.
